Imperfect Success: "We Are Trying"
This is a poem I wrote for Jason a couple months ago when it felt like this season of life was overwhelming us. God has been so good and gracious to remind us of where our foundation lies -- and that it is unshakable.
Love isn’t arrogant or rude
My hand is holding yours
But your heart feels far away
It’s no one’s fault
We are trying.
You work so hard
Long hours away
Busy hours at home
You are trying.
I care for the boys
Prepare our meals
Open our home
I am trying.
We try so hard
But it’s never enough
We both feel pain
We are missing each other.
Our conversations are short
We quickly fall asleep
Our hearts are worn
Do we just keep
trying??
We reminisce what was
We’re strangers here
It’s like two separate lives
When it ought to be one.
So you take a day off
We schedule a date
Conversation is strained
Do we just keep
trying??
You walk to the park
I sit and pray
The Lord whispers to me
“You both are
succeeding.”
He brings to my mind
Love is patient and kind
It does not envy or boast
But makes another matter most
Love isn’t arrogant or rude
It doesn’t bend to a mood
Instead of rejoicing at wrong
It rejoices long
At truth and not resentment
Love bears all things with
contentment
Belief and hope endure
Because Love is secure.
So my darling, my love
Please know this,
Nothing is lost
We are succeeding.
You’re so patient with me
You are kind and consistent
You expend yourself daily
You are succeeding.
I work through my emotions
I speak truth to encourage
I persevere when struggling
I am succeeding.
We love in action
The emotions will return
We are tired and worn
But we are succeeding.
Our hope is secure
Our love WILL endure
Because it comes from
our Savior
We are succeeding.
We are succeeding.
Oh Meridith! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I needed this so bad. Such encouragement and truth. Thanks my friend!
ReplyDeleteOh Michelle, I am so glad to hear that it encouraged you! Hang in there dear friend -- life and marriage can be so hard, but God is always faithful to give us the needed faith and grace to persevere. You can do this in HIM!
